Alvaro Gomez

Soloist
Professor Alvaro Gomez is the first prizewinner of the "Jeunesse Musical" competition of Latin America in 1970, and the "Japan Foundation Prize" in 1982. He was the recipient of the Fullbright Foundation Award in 1987. Now, Gomez is recognized worldwide as one of the most brilliant violinists emerging from the P. I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow.

Conductor
Alvaro Gomez made his conducting debut in 1975 with the Chilean Philharmonic Orchestra. Due to his success, Gomez has been a guest conductor with orchestras in China, Europe, South America, and North America. For four years, Gomez was the principal conductor of the Daytona Beach Civic Orchestra in Florida, and Associate Conductor of the University of Florida Symphony Orchstra in Gainsville.

Addtionally, he has served as Director of Orchestral Activities at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee and the summer conductor in Alaska-Fairbanks. He is Director and Conductor of the Winter Park Chamber Music Academy and Principal Conductor of the Florida Young Artists Orchestra in Orlando, Florida, USA.

He is a regular guest artist at festivals such as the Grand Teton (Wyoming); Florida International Festival; Symphonic Festivals (Kromeriz, Czech Republic); Summer Fine Arts Camp (Fairbanks, Alaska); and Schlern International Music Festival (Sudtirol, Italy and Austria).
